Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, you'll be welcomed by our representative and transferred to your hotel in Thamel or a similar area. Depending on your arrival time, you can spend the day exploring the vibrant streets of Thamel, known for its shops, restaurants, and bustling atmosphere. In the evening, there will be a pre-trek briefing where you'll meet your trekking guide and fellow trekkers. You'll have time to ask any last-minute questions and make final preparations for the adventure ahead.
In the early afternoon of Day 2, we departed Kathmandu, leaving behind the bustling streets and ancient temples for the quieter roads leading eastward. The drive to Manthali, approximately four hours in duration, took us through diverse landscapes of terraced fields, rural villages, and winding mountain roads. Along the way, we caught glimpses of distant snow-capped peaks, a reminder of the adventure awaiting us. Arriving in Manthali, we settled in for the evening, preparing ourselves mentally and physically for the next day's early start.
Day 3 began with an early morning rise as we made our way to the airport in Manthali for our flight to Lukla. The short but exhilarating flight, taking around 30-40 minutes, offered stunning aerial views of the Himalayan foothills and valleys below. Upon landing at Lukla's Tenzing-Hillary Airport, renowned for its challenging runway carved into the mountainside, we embarked on our trek to Phakding. The trail started with a descent through pine forests and followed the Dudh Koshi River, crossing several suspension bridges adorned with prayer flags. The trek to Phakding, spanning approximately 3-4 hours, provided our first taste of the Khumbu region's natural beauty and the warm hospitality of its Sherpa inhabitants. Arriving in Phakding, we settled into our lodge, reflecting on the day's journey and anticipating the adventures yet to come as we continued our trek towards Everest Base Camp.
Today's trek takes you along the banks of the Dudh Koshi River, crossing it several times via suspension bridges adorned with colorful prayer flags. You'll enter Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, where your permits will be checked at the entrance in Monjo. Continuing uphill, you'll reach Jorsale, where you'll stop for lunch. After lunch, the trail ascends steeply through dense forests of pine and rhododendron, eventually opening up to the vibrant Sherpa capital of Namche Bazaar. Namche Bazaar is a bustling market town with a mixture of traditional Sherpa homes, lodges, and modern amenities like bakeries and cafes. Here, you'll spend two nights to acclimatize to the altitude.
On Day 6 of your Everest Base Camp trek, you will explore on a memorable journey from Kyangjuma to Phortse, navigating through the stunning Mong La Pass at 3,970 meters. After a nutritious breakfast in Kyangjuma, you'll start your trek around 7:00 AM, climbing steadily towards Mong La. Upon reaching the pass, you’ll enjoy a refreshing tea break with some of the most breathtaking panoramic views of the trek, including Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Khantega, Kusum Khangaru, Kante Peak, and Thapuche Peak. The landscape is truly spectacular, and if you’re fortunate, you might catch glimpses of wildlife such as musk deer in the surrounding area. After savoring the views, you'll continue your trek, descending towards the serene village of Phortse. This less-traveled route offers a tranquil and unspoiled experience away from the main tourist paths. By late afternoon, you’ll arrive in Phortse, where you’ll check into a local teahouse, relax, and take in the peaceful atmosphere of this charming village, completing a day of remarkable scenery and tranquil exploration.
Today's trek takes you through picturesque landscapes adorned with mani walls and prayer flags. You’ll journey through the village of Pangboche, one of the highest permanent settlements in the Everest region.
In Pangboche, you can visit the Pangboche Monastery, the oldest monastery in the Khumbu region. The monastery is home to ancient artifacts and religious relics and offers stunning panoramic views of Ama Dablam, Everest, and Lhotse. This serene setting provides a perfect backdrop for spiritual contemplation and reflection.
After visiting Pangboche, you'll continue your trek through the villages of Somare and Orsho, immersing yourself in the rich cultural and natural beauty of the Everest region.
Leaving Pangboche, the trail ascends gradually towards Dingboche, another important acclimatization stop on the Everest Base Camp trek. The trail offers panoramic views of towering peaks like Ama Dablam, Nuptse, and Lhotse throughout the day. Dingboche is a summer grazing settlement surrounded by stone walls to protect crops from the cold winds. Here, you'll settle into your lodge and enjoy views of the Imja Valley and surrounding mountains.
Today is another acclimatization day to help your body adjust to the high altitude before ascending further. You can take a short hike to Nagarjun Hill, which offers panoramic views of Makalu, the fifth highest mountain in the world, along with views of Ama Dablam, Lhotse, and other neighboring peaks. Alternatively, you can explore Dingboche village, interact with local Sherpa people, and learn about their traditional lifestyle and cultural practices.
Continuing your trek, you'll leave Dingboche and trek towards Lobuche, gradually gaining altitude as you approach the Khumbu Glacier moraine. The trail offers breathtaking views of Pheriche Valley, Pokalde Peak, and the Tawache Ridge. Upon reaching Lobuche, you'll settle into your lodge and prepare for the final ascent to Everest Base Camp the next day.
Today is a challenging day as you trek to Gorak Shep, the last settlement before Everest Base Camp. The trail ascends through rocky moraines and glacial debris, offering panoramic views of Nuptse, Khumbuste, and Pumori mountains. After reaching Gorak Shep, you'll drop off your belongings at the lodge and continue towards Everest Base Camp. The trail to Base Camp traverses the Khumbu Glacier and offers close-up views of the Khumbu Icefall and surrounding peaks. After spending some time at Everest Base Camp, taking photos and soaking in the awe-inspiring surroundings, you'll trek back to Gorak Shep for an overnight stay.
Early in the morning, you'll hike to Kala Patthar (5,545m), a famous viewpoint offering panoramic sunrise views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and other neighboring peaks. The ascent to Kala Patthar is steep but rewarding, providing unparalleled views of the Himalayan giants bathed in the morning light. After soaking in the views and capturing photos, you'll descend back to Gorak Shep for breakfast before trekking back down to Pheriche. Pheriche is a tranquil village nestled beneath Ama Dablam's towering peak, where you'll spend the night.
Retracing your steps, you'll trek back towards Namche Bazaar, descending through lush rhododendron and juniper forests. The trail offers stunning views of Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam, providing ample opportunities for photos and reflection on your journey. Upon reaching Namche Bazaar, you'll have time to relax, explore the market, and enjoy a well-deserved meal in one of the local restaurants.
Continuing your descent, you'll trek back through Monjo and Phakding before reaching Lukla, where you'll spend your last night in the Khumbu region. The trail follows the Dudh Koshi River, passing through Sherpa villages and lush forests filled with rhododendron and pine trees. Upon reaching Lukla, you can celebrate the completion of your trek with your guide and fellow trekkers, reminiscing about the unforgettable experiences and achievements over the past two weeks.
Weather permitting, you'll take an early morning flight from Lukla to Manthali. From Manthali, you'll drive back to Kathmandu, enjoying scenic views of rural Nepal along the way. Upon reaching Kathmandu, you'll check back into your hotel in Thamel or a similar area. The rest of the day is free for you to relax, shop for souvenirs, or explore more of Kathmandu's cultural landmarks, such as Durbar Square or Swayambhunath Stupa.
You'll have a full day in Kathmandu to relax, explore the city's cultural sites, do some last-minute shopping, or simply unwind after the trek.
Today marks the end of your Everest Base Camp trek adventure in Nepal. Depending on your flight schedule, you'll be transferred to Tribhuvan International Airport for your onward journey home. Before departing, take a moment to reflect on your experiences, friendships made, and the natural beauty of the Himalayas that you've been fortunate to witness. Your memories of the Everest Base Camp trek will undoubtedly stay with you for a lifetime, serving as a testament to your adventurous spirit and determination.
We spent a week trekking in Nepal and Karma was amazing! This is my 5th time trekking with Karma and I would not go with anyone else. Karma is professional, kind and funny. He also loves to teach and share with you about this country.
Trekked to EBC in Oct/Nov 2022 with Karma and his team of skillful Sherpas (Parshuram, Sonam, and Mingmo). It was my first hike, and the entire team of Sherpas made it so much easier. Everyone was incredibly modest, funny, and willing to help with anything at any moment. They adjusted to the varying speeds of the climbing members and divided the daypack load whenever someone became fatigued. HIGHER PATH TREKS & EXPEDITION is highly recommended for a safe and once-in-a-lifetime Himalayan adventure!
I planned to show my 16 years-old son the EBC, so after the last year Mera Peak climbing i returned with family. That was no question that we hike with Karma. And - of course - it was excellent. I am gong to come next year again ! So what else can i tell about the Higher Path than that i want my son climbing and trekking with tem in the futute again.
I had a wonderful experience trekking to Everest base camp with our guides Karma and Mingma! They took the best care of our group from the time we landed in Kathmandu, throughout the trek and made sure we made it to the airport for our flights back home. I never felt unsafe, even when some members of our group (including myself) struggled Karma stayed with us and got us through it safely. They took great care of our belongings and chose wonderful lodges for us to stay in. And they were so much fun!! It truly was a trip of a lifetime and they made it incredible! I cannot recommend them enough!
We had an absolutely spectacular Everest Base Camp trek with Karma and Mingma from Higher Path in March 2022. They took care of all the details along the way so we could just focus on the trekking experience and the amazing scenery. Karma was very helpful setting up sightseeing tours in Kathmandu as well before our trek, and he personally escorted us to and from the airport. Can’t wait to visit Nepal again, and definitely plan to take future trips with Higher Path!
Higher Path Treks took excellent care of us from the moment we landed in Kathmandu and were expert guides on our trek to EBC, In Kathmandu they provided us transportation and took us to spots around Kathmandu both popular sites as well as hidden local shops and restaurants, things we absolutely never gotten to experience without them. We quickly became friends and loved eating and spending time with Karma and our guides. When our flight to Lukla was cancelled, Karma saved the day and got us helicopter flights so that remained on schedule. On the trek, they knew half the locals on the trail and in the villages. They knew all the lodge owners and some shop owners, it made our trip feel much more immersed in the local culture. At the lodges they took excellent care of us, making sure we were satisfied with the accommodations and taking care of our meals. When we arrived at Tengboche monastery, the monks said it was closed that day, but Karma talked to someone and then we got to go in. We were always talking about how Karma could work his magic and make things work for us. It was so sad to leave Karma and our guides. This was the best trip I’ve ever taken and Higher Path Treks made it so much more special than I ever hoped. Thank you Karma and Mingma and all our porters!
I absolutely love this company! Im an avid traveler and have done many treks with plenty of trekking companies. No one like them! I hired Karma and his team for my trek up Everest base camp. They took care of me, even when elevation sickness set in. Every step was planned. Every meal, every lodge, every pick up and drop off went without a hitch. I would let them bring my children, that’s how confident i feel about them. I’m willing to answer any questions. I truly adore this team.
It was awesome trekking for EBC and Kalapathar. The big nature of Himalaya fascinated me. I enjoyed not only trekking, but culture of Nepal. There are many small villages in Himalaya and beautiful life there. The people in Himalaya took care of us warmly. That is good memories too. It was tough trekking but we had very good guides, Karma ji and Mingma ji, so we could trek safely. You can count on them. They are professional and can manage everything very well. I really appreciate them. Thank you for awesome time.
I tried EBC. That?was a long way for me. But I had a great guide and good friends. Many nice view, animal, people, food. I felt special time.
My experienced with Karma and his group were exceptional, I would highly recommend this company for any trekking guided tour in Nepal, the guides and porters were very helpful, kind, friendly, they made us feel comfortable.
I had the pleasure of visiting Nepal and completing the Everest Base Camp trek with Karma and his team from Higher Path Treks. It was an experience I will never forget and what made it so great was knowing that myself and the rest of the group were in good hands. Karma runs a professional business in a sustainable way that benefits the community. Also when traveling with Karma, you can expect to have a lot of fun! Enjoy!

The Everest Base Camp Trek is a famous trekking route in Nepal that takes you to the base of Mount Everest, the world's highest peak. It offers stunning views of Everest and the surrounding Himalayan peaks.
The trek is considered challenging due to high altitudes and variable weather conditions. However, it is manageable for anyone with a good level of fitness and proper acclimatization.
The best times are pre-monsoon (February to May) and post-monsoon (September to December). These periods offer stable weather and clear views of the mountains.
While it's not mandatory to have a guide, it is highly recommended for safety and navigation, especially in high-altitude conditions. Porters can also be hired to carry your belongings.
Everest Base Camp is located at approximately 5,364 meters (17,598 feet) above sea level.
You will need a Sagarmatha National Park entry permit and a TIMS (Trekkers' Information Management System) card, which your guide or trekking agency can arrange for you.
Essentials include trekking boots, warm clothing (layers), a down jacket, a sleeping bag suitable for cold temperatures, sunscreen, sunglasses, and personal medications. A detailed packing list can be obtained from your trekking agency.
Accommodation along the trekking route varies from basic tea houses to more comfortable lodges in larger villages. Rooms are typically twin-shared with basic amenities such as beds and blankets. Hot showers and charging facilities may be available for an extra cost.
Yes, altitude sickness is a serious concern due to the high altitudes reached during the trek. It is important to acclimatize properly, stay hydrated, and listen to your guide's advice. Medications like Diamox can also be considered, but only after consulting with a doctor.
Prepare by improving your cardiovascular fitness through regular exercise (hiking, running, cycling), practicing hiking with a backpack, and familiarizing yourself with high-altitude conditions if possible. Mental preparation and researching the trek are also beneficial.
While it is possible to trek independently, it is safer and more convenient to go with a reputable trekking agency that provides experienced guides, porters, and logistical support.
Risks include altitude sickness, unpredictable weather, and physical strain. It's important to be prepared physically and mentally, and to follow safety guidelines throughout the trek.
Yes, there are alternative routes such as the Gokyo Lakes Trek or the Three Passes Trek, which offer different perspectives of the Everest region and can be combined with a visit to Everest Base Camp.
